playing with our browsers and in that attempt we usually end up adding many browser helper objects (BHO) in the form of add-ons, plug-ins and toolbars. While some of them are really helpful, many add to the overhead making our browsers slow . And then, there are instances when we stop using some of them yet fail to remove them completely. Besides, the web and software world is such that at times we add many toolbars to our browsers without even realizing. Can’t blame anyone, can you? But, of course you can choose to remove them. You can open up your browsers, navigate to the settings and get rid of all the toppings one by one. Or you can read on to learn about a tool that helps you remove them faster. The tool is called Toolbar Cleaner. It’s Windows-only and works for Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. It provides a single interface to get the task done on an all three of them. Let us look in to the details. The tool interface will show two tabs – Browsers and Windows Startup. The former is the major league and the list in it will contain all browsers among the three of that you have installed. Under each browser you will see an array of toolbars, extensions and other objects that you have added explicitly. All you need to do is select the ones that you do not want to use any more or do not want as a part of the browser and hit on the button reading Remove Selected Toolbar(s)/BHO(s). Once you execute the program, it will ask for your confirmation. Click on Ok to get the task done. At the end you will see another message asking if you wish to open the Control Panel. That’s because some programs leave traces and need complete removal from the Control Panel. Though it is rare, we suggest you should visit it once. The Select All button that you see can be used to select all objects under all browsers at once. Double clicking on a specific browser will select all objects under that browser. That is not the entire capability of the tool. There’s more to it. When you hover on an element it shows some basic information about that object. The image below shows an example of the same. If you do not need it, you can disable the same by navigating to Toolbar Cleaner Options and unmarking Show the information popup. The other tab, as you see, contains the list of programs that auto start when you switch your computer on. There are many ways to remove such items; this is just one more. Ironically, when you are installing the tool, it adds two BHO’s to your browsers. So, make sure you uncheck those options before hitting on Finish button.
