While the introduction of the Game Booster mode in the MIUI 9 China ROM got me excited, imagine my shock when I found this mode absent in the later releases. Initially, I went ahead and played games the conventional way, however, it got me thinking – how to enable it on MIUI 9. Could it be done? My research led me to an app named Activity Launcher. This Android app lists all the functions and activities on your Android phone and lets you create shortcuts for the same. Handling the app is super easy and it lets you create shortcuts in a jiffy.
Step 1: Scan Activities
Launch the Activity Launcher app and tap the Recent activities drop-down menu. This will fetch all the activities — active or inactive — that are installed on your phone.
Step 2: Locate Speed Booster
Normally, the Game booster mode is found under Security. So, you’d need to scroll down the activities section until you locate the Security option. Tap it and it’ll open the options under it. Now, all you’ve to do is locate the Game Speed booster option and tap it.
Step 3: Create Shortcut
This will launch the Game Booster mode directly. Yes, it’s this simple. Since you’ll be using this function for the first time, it’ll create a shortcut on the screen and walk you through the setup process. All you have to do now is add the games of your choice.
Step 4: Tweak the Settings
Now that the Game booster is enabled, you’ll be able to customize it as per your preference. For starters, you can choose to clear the cache or keep the connection priority as it is. To tweak the settings, go to Settings and toggle the switches as you wish. Furthermore, you can also add a set of apps in the exception list.
Alternative App: QuickShortcutMaker
Another cool alternative to the Activity Launcher is the QuickShortcutMaker app. Similar to the above app, it lets you create shortcuts for all the activities. It’s a simple app and has featured in a number of our articles. Though the basic functionality of both the apps is similar, QuickShortcutMaker goes the extra mile and lets you choose the shortcut icon or the name from within the app. Plus, it has a neat search functionality so you don’t have to spend time searching for the right option.
How QuickShortcutMaker Works
Once you’ve opened the app, type Game booster in the search bar and tap the first option that pops up. Now, you’ll be given the option to choose the name and the icon for the shortcut. Having done that, just tap OK and you’re done. Simple, right?
Game Not Over!
This is how you can unlock the Game Booster mode on Xiaomi phones running MIUI 9. Though you may have to get your hands dirty with a few manual things, this automatic process makes the job a lot easier since you don’t have to worry about closing apps manually. What’s more? This nifty mode doesn’t let your phone from switching over to other mobile networks in the middle of games. So, what’re you waiting for? Get started and happy gaming!
