Creating quotes from websites is specific to Android mobile phones, and it’d help if you’re the latest version of Chrome, so if you have an iOS device and using Google’s mobile browser right now, you can’t take advantage of the feature.
Check to See If You Have the Latest Chrome Version
Step 1: Open the Google Play Store app on your phone and search for Chrome. You should see an Update button underneath if an update is available. If that’s not the case, the button should say Open.
Step 2: Once the update installs (if available), go back to Chrome and follow the steps below.
How to Create Quote Cards Using Chrome for Android
After enabling the flag, using the option to create quote cards is simple. Here’s how to create shareable quote cards. Step 1: Launch the Chrome browser on your phone. Step 2: Open any website you want to clip text to make quote cards. Step 3: On the web page, long-press on the text and drag your finger to highlight the entire block of text you want to share. Step 4: From the menu that appears above the selected text, click Share.
Step 5: You can share the text directly to social apps such as WhatsApp and Facebook. But we want to create a card instead. Tap the Create card option.
Step 6: That will create a standard card, including the selected text in quotation marks with the website and article details at the bottom.
Step 7: Swipe right to check out the different styles for your cards. However, you can’t edit these card styles. It would have been nice if Google allowed users to change background or add/remove certain elements. After this, you can only choose from a handful of options.
Step 8: After making changes, press on the Next button. Step 9: You’ll need to decide what to do with the card you’ve just created. You can share it with your friends and family by pressing on one of the social apps you use frequently.
Step 10: Alternatively, you can choose to save the image to your device to use it later on. Or copy it to your clipboard.
How to Create a Link that Opens Directly to Highlighted Text
Alternatively, there’s another trick Chrome for Android has up its sleeve that lets you share a favorite quote or something of interest with someone. With this option, you’ll be able to create a link that will open directly to that piece of text on a webpage. Here’s how to take advantage of it. The option is also available in Chrome for PC. Step 1: Go to the webpage with the text you want to share with others on your mobile device. Step 2: To highlight the text you wish to share, touch and hold on it and then drag your finger. Step 3: Select ‘Share’ from the mini menu that appears. Step 4: Now instead of selecting ‘Create card,’ make sure the Link icon at the top is activated (it should be blue).
Step 5: Select the app on which you want to share the text. Step 6: The text will be shared along with the link. Tapping the link will have the effect of opening the page where you will see the text highlighted.
Note: If you want to share just the text tap on the Link icon. Step 7: Alternatively, on PC highlight the text using the mouse cursor, right-click and select ‘Copy link to highlight.’
Step 8: Then paste the highlight into an email or your preferred messaging service.
