weather can be absolutely essential. However, if you take a look at the App Store, you will find yourself overwhelmed by the sheer amount of weather apps available there. Not only that, but you will also be hard pressed to find the best among them, since all of them offer basically the same functionality. So instead, here we’ll show you the three weather apps for iPhone that we consider not only highly useful, but also very colorful, minimal and stylish. Let’s get started.
Solar
Considered one of the best looking apps on the App Store, Solar for iPhone (usually $1.99, Free as of this writing) delivers on both style and functionality. In fact, it was one of the first (if not the first) weather app to cast aside buttons and lists and to replace them almost entirely by gestures. Upon opening the app and granting it access to your location, you are welcomed by a screen that, while minimal, still provides you with the essential weather information for your city. Swiping up or down on this screen will show you either the weather forecast by the hour or a three day forecast respectively. This feature is very accessible and unobtrusive, and takes you back to the app’s main weather screen as soon as you lift your finger. Solar also offers the option of having the weather information for multiple locations. What is really cool though, is that by pinching the screen you get a nice overview of four of them, making it ideal for someone like me, who likes to know the weather conditions of many places.
Climate Clock
Beautiful, simple, functional. These are the three words that I would use to describe Climate Clock for iPhone ($1.99), the most recent of the weather apps in this list and one of the most impressive ones. Climate Clock is as simple as it comes, while at the same time managing to remain strong on looks, features and interface. The app’s main screen sports a pretty original interface, showing you the temperature for each hour of the day as if it were a clock. Tap on it once and it will show you the relative humidity. Tap on it a second time and it show you the speed of the wind for the day as well. Tap at the bottom center of the screen and you will see a useful ten-day forecast. Additionally, the app carries three different themes, ranging from the minimal to the colorful, while also allowing you to check the weather of other locations by swiping, although there is no way to see the forecasts for other cities at the same time.
Haze
Another recent entry into the realm of stylish, minimal apps, Haze for iPhone ($2.99) really pushes for the “less is more” approach. In fact, the only thing you see when opening the app is a circle with the current temperature on it and three small icons at the bottom. However, Haze makes use of some clever gestures and UI tricks to give you a lot more information. Drag the screen down and you will see a five-day forecast, while tapping on the mid-screen bubble gives you more information about the current temperature. Swiping left or right from the temperature screen shows you the remaining hours of sun in the day or the humidity levels respectively. On the downside though, Haze is the only app on this list that doesn’t have the option to have see the weather for multiple locations. There you go. If you are looking for a weather app that offers you the more than the basic weather information but that at the same time looks great, be sure to check any of these. You won’t be disappointed.
